Ibiza Is ALWAYS A Good Idea

What do you do when 99% of your friends are in relationships, your pasty skin is in serious need of some Vitamin D and you still haven't outgrown binge drinking until 6am and humiliating yourself on the dance floor? Why you round up the only single friends you have left and head to none other than the beautiful White Isle that is Ibiza of course...Duh.

Often misunderstood and sadly compared to the less classier of party destinations such as Magaluf or Zante, many don't realise that Ibiza is a beautiful, beautiful island, bursting with Spanish charm, stunning beaches, turquoise sea, gorgeous cuisine, an ever-present hippy culture, with yachts to rival those of Cannes and the home of jaw-dropping sunsets. Welcome to my photo diary to see what I got up to in a week on the beautiful Island of Ibiza....

Where I Stayed...

We stayed at "Es Puchet Hotel",  just 5 minutes walk away from San Antonio beach and promenade, just a 10 minute walk away from the port and a 15 minute walk from the lively Westend...so overall, a pretty ideal location. With a chilled out DJ set around the pool from 12-3, the hotel had the perfect amount of Ibiza atmosphere, without being a hardcore party hotel with reps ramming tequila shots down your neck at 10am. I highly recommend this hotel to any Ibiza goers, as it's close enough to the action, without being right in the centre of it all, so definitely no ear plugs needed!

Cafe Mambo

If you have visited Ibiza before, then you will know that the infamous Cafe Mambo is the place to be to watch the sun set. Hundreds flock here every evening and congregate on the rocks in the hope of catching one of Ibiza's famous sunsets. The sun sets around 9pm in Ibiza and when it eventually sets over the horizon, it truly is a breathtaking affair. Cafe Mambo sets the scene with some chilled out house music, while everyone on the rocks literally chills and drinks (plastic cups and cocktail making is a thing down there). In the final moments of the sun setting, everybody stands up and counts down until the Sun completely sets into the ocean and everyone claps and cheers...cos apparently that's a thing in Ibiza...

Dining @ Savannah's

If you're heading to Cafe Mambo to watch the sunset, you're likely to want to feed yourself either before or after. I was told by many that to eat in actual Cafe Mambo was mega expensive, but there are a few other restaurants to chose from next door, so we decided to eat at Savannah'sIt was about €20 per main, so a tad pricier than the average main in Ibiza, but understandable as you're paying for the view. It's located literally right above the sea and overlooking the whole of San Antonio bay, so as you can imagine, the view of the sunset is breathtaking. There's just something so calming about eating your dinner by the sea and I would have eaten here every night if I could. So so worth the money. They don't rush you for the table either which is a dream.

Boat Party

Boat parties aren't usually my thing to be totally honest with you. Just a 15 minute boat ride is 15 minutes too long on a boat for me and usually has me chucking my guts up over the side of the boat, but thanks to some travel sickness pills sent from the angels and some serious persuasion from my friends, I dragged my ass onto a 'Sunset Cruise Boat Party' and my my, it did not disappoint. Think of any pre-existing ideas you may have about boat parties and now erase all of those thoughts. This is no Magaluf and on this boat there are no sex games, no boob flashing, no jumping overboard and certainly no grinding for a watered down tequila shot. This is the Prada of boat parties. The boat party lasted from 6-10pm and the Captain takes you out into the middle of the ocean and anchors the boat in the perfect spot, leaving you to watch the sun slowly setting all evening. All of this beauty is accompanied by a DJ on the top deck, a bar and some seriously good vibes. This boat trip was the highlight of my week and there was just something so beautiful and calming about being in the middle of the ocean with nothing surrounding you except from music, my best friends, the open ocean and a beautiful sun setting right infront of my slightly intoxicated eyes.

Ocean Beach

I'm really not the Ocean Beach kinda girl to be honest with you. The idea of prancing around in a ridiculously impractical swimsuit and squishing my swollen aeroplane feet into wedges whilst walking round with a face full of melting make-up in 33 degree heat is my idea of hell, but I thought hey-ho, you're only in Ibiza once and everybody else seems to flock to Ocean Beach when they're in Ibiza, so I was a sheep for the day and gave it a chance. And to be fair, it was actually pretty dam good. I was worried it was going to be a full on Vegas-style intense pool party and my hungover ass was seriously panicking...but it's the perfect amount of chilled. You can drink as much or as little as you want to, chill around the edge of the pool, take out a loan and hire a bed if you want to and practice your handstands in the pool (well maybe not that), but what I mean is you can party there if you want to, or you can treat it as a chilled out hangover-curing pool day like we did. It closes at 12 and the later you stay the rowdier it gets, so it's your choice how your day goes.

Where I Partied

You can't visit Ibiza and not go to the infamous superclubs now can you? Having previously done Pacha, Boom and Sankeys when I visited Ibiza 2 years ago, this time I got to tick 2 more clubs off the list and went to Amnesia and finally....the famous Ushuaia, which I had heard nothing but incredible reviews about and was absolutely busting to go to. The event we went to at Ushuaia was 'Blue' and we saw: Jonas Blue, Alex Adair, Robin Schulz, Sigala & Oliver Heldens and Amnesia had a pretty impressive line-up of: Gorgon City, Example, Wilkinson, Rudimental, Disciples & Mike Skinner. The clubs in Ibiza don't have such a fab reputation for no reason and give you an opportunity to see some of the best DJ's in the world perform, in some of the best and most iconic clubs in the world.

The holiday was the perfect blend of dancing, drinking, craziness, relaxation and all with a backdrop of the beautiful Balearic Island. I over-indulged on way too much paella, sangria and cocktails sugary enough to make my teeth fall out and even though I'm almost 99% sure I will pass out on that treadmill in my first session back in the gym tomorrow (yes I've been putting it off everyday since I got back), I can safely say I have absolutely no regrets and am already ridiculously excited to do it all over again next Summer.

If this holiday made me realise anything, it's that yes I am now officially an adult with an adult job and no longer able to hide behind my student status and get away with doing totally socially unacceptable things "because I'm a student", and yes I may be closer to those two dreaded numbers 2 and 5 than I'd prefer and yes I probably should have outgrown binge drinking and slut dropping so hard you split your dress (this is unfortunately true...RIP Topshop palm print dress), but the truth is, sometimes you just need to let that sweaty hair down, lose your sense of inhibitions for a night (or 7) and forget about all the stresses of adult life. Because although 23, I'm still a big kid underneath it all. Still a big bloody kid who still enjoys sticking to dancefloors in tacky bars and the thrill of kissing sexy European lads. Shoot me!

So sometimes you just gotta say f*** it and book yourself a flight to Ibiza, drink shitty Vodka (Rushkinoff I'm talking to you), survive on 2 hours sleep a night and return to England a broken woman, but with a ton of incredible memories, because believe me, when you're 40, married and a Mother and one glass of wine is enough to trigger a monster hangover and a trip to the cinema is considered the highlight of the week, you'll be thanking your lucky stars you lived your twenties to the absolute fullest.

And remember....Ibiza is ALWAYS a good idea!

Until next Summer Ibiza....
xoxo
